Development Officer

ArtOps is a nonprofit organization providing a shared services model of administration, management and operations support to small and medium-size arts nonprofits. Who we’re looking for:

ArtOps’ Development Officer works with the President and boards of our two partner organizations, Detroit Chamber Winds and Strings and the Great Lakes Chamber Music Festival, to outline the vision and strategy for development and ensure successful execution of all initiatives. This position also provides support to client organizations that contract for development services. This is a key position in the organization with opportunities for advancement.

Job Qualifications: 

  • 3 years of progressive development experience
  • Excellent leadership and organizational skills
  • Analytical and creative thinking
  • Exceptional relationship-building and collaboration skills
  • Customer-focused approach
  • Confidence in effectively communicating across a wide variety of platforms, including telephone, email, and written/in-person solicitations.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously in an unsupervised environment. 
  • BS/BA marketing, public relations, communications, or relevant field

Preferred:

  • At least two years in a development management role
  • Nonprofit marketing experience
  • Demonstrated appreciation for the arts

 Job Responsibilities:

Drive activities in support of the institutional development efforts for ArtOps and its partner organizations.

  • With President and development team members, set sponsorship materials, endowment campaign materials, and other institutional development pieces.
  • Collaborates with marketing on the design of all development printed pieces

Lead major development and stewardship initiatives.

  • With the respective Executive Director/President and boards, outlines the vision and strategy for development plans annually for each partner and client organization.
  • With the respective Executive Director/President and boards, sets, implements, monitors, and meets earned and contributed income goals for multiple organizations.
  • With the respective Development Committee chairs and appropriate staff, create the development and stewardship plans and season goals annually for partner organizations and selective clients.
  • Ensure the execution of the development & stewardship plans with the help of staff and volunteers
  • Work with the partner organizations’ development committee to ensure they are actively involved with the strategy and execution of their development plans.
  • Provides development and stewardship reports to boards.

Leads individual solicitation initiatives across organizations. 

  • Oversees the design and implementation of annual giving, sponsorship, endowment, and major gifts campaigns.
  • Coordinates and implements sponsorship solicitation, including making individual solicitations for funds.
  • Coordinates major gift/benefactor solicitations.

Ensure that the partner organization’s boards are engaged and equipped with the tools to help make development succeed.

  • Ensures that the client organizations’ board development committees are appropriately staffed, engaged, and effective.
  • Works with the board(s) to identify and recruit board members necessary to carry out development tasks.
  • Provide reports for and attends board meetings.
  • Manages the partner organizations’ development committees.
  • Tracks DCWS and GLCMF board participation.

Provide strategic planning and support to ArtOps clients that purchase development services.

  • Consult with each ArtOps client that has purchased development services to develop a strategy
  • Consult with clients to help them understand their development needs, activities that will support their needs, and how best to implement those activities for success.
  • Provide consistent support to each ArtOps development client(s), using prompt communication, and building solid relationships to deliver the best results.
  • Prepares development report(s) on a regular, timely basis. 
  • Where appropriate, oversee activities and efforts by other development team members to support the clients’ development needs.

Participate in ArtOps staff planning and team activities, executing other duties as assigned.

  • Lead or assist as needed in long-range planning for multiple organizations.
  • Work with staff to plan and monitor billable hours for partners and clients.
  • Work with staff to create development services proposals for potential clients.
  • Attend weekly staff meetings and other internal meetings as appropriate.
  • Attend board meetings for the partner organizations, taking minutes on a rotating basis.
  • Submit time tracking regularly.
  • Assists in the covering of concerts and special events. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned. 

How we’ll measure success:

By evaluating the success and implementation of the development plans; by meeting sponsorship, individual, annual fund, and endowment goals or having a solid understanding for, and explanation of, missed goals; by evaluating the timeliness and effectiveness of development communications; evaluating stewardship initiates for the year and by receiving consistently positive feedback from boards, committees, staff and patrons.

Hours:

This is a 40-hour-per-week position, requiring nights and weekends (schedule set with staff and successful candidate upon hire.) 

Compensation:

Depending on the experience level of the successful candidate, the position is forecast to pay $60,000 -$65,000 annually, with a host of benefits provided.
